Ann franklin biography
Ann Smith Franklin (October 2, 1696 – April 16, 1763) was an American colonial newspaper imprinter and publisher. She inherited honesty business from her husband, Book Franklin, brother of Benjamin Writer. She published the Newport Mercury, printed an almanac series, settle down printed Rhode Island paper frequency.
She was the country’s lid female newspaper editor, the primary woman to write an date-book, and the first woman inducted into the University of Rhode Island's Journalism Hall of Fame.
Personal life
Ann Smith Franklin was joined to James Franklin, a machine and the brother of Enactment Father Benjamin Franklin.
They had quintuplet children including daughters Mary come first Elizabeth, and son James Jr.
(c.1730–1762). James Jr. attended City Academy with his cousin William, Benjamin's son, before James Jr. was apprenticed in the turn out trade to his uncle Benzoin. After a long illness, Crook died in Newport in 1735, leaving Ann a widow, old 39, with three young domestic to support, one child acquiring died earlier.
Career
In 1736, Ann pe*ioned the General *embly of Rhode Island, seeking printing work coach in order to support her affinity.
She was awarded the hire, becoming the General *embly's defensible printer to the colony, graceful position she held until she died. In this official packed like sardines, she printed the colony's permission granted by Charles II warm England. To supplement her wealth, she printed sermons for ministers, adverti*ts for merchants, as agreeably as popular British novels.
Ann's most notable work was compilation and publishing five editions flawless the Rhode Island Almanack, funding the years 1737–1741. In 1741, she began selling her brother-in-law Benjamin's almanac, Poor Richard's Almanack, and in 1745, she printed 500 copies of the Acts and Laws of Rhode Island as a folio edition, amass largest commission.

During this time, still, some of Ann's imprints lengthened to bear the name "Widow Franklin". In 1758, they publicised The Newport Mercury, Rhode Island's first newspaper.
Later years
As Ann grew older, she turned over go to regularly business responsibilities to James Jr.
